A Few Thoughts on ‘What the Health’
Day 75
- Leave Chicken Out of This
I swear on George Jefferson’s grave and all that I consider holy and black, if you don’t leave chicken the hell out of this. Chicken has never done not one thing to no one — not ever! You’re telling me the thing that I’ve eaten every day — the thing that has taken care of me in sickness and health — for richer and poorer — is bad for me? I’m not believing it. I need receipts. Like at least four or five of them. And even then, we won’t believe you — you need more people. But real talk, Chicken ain’t done a damn thing to you, so leave it out of this conversation. I was with you until you came at Chicken (yes it needs to be capitalized).
2. The Protagonist
His mission may even be valid but I can’t take my eyes off of his douchey messy man bun thing emerging from his baseball cap. It’s distracting. Moreover his approach is whiny rather than compelling. In fact I think he’s a nice guy, but every time he calls up an association and asks them about why they’re screwing people over, I just want to punch him in the face — which is a weird feeling. They should have picked someone else to narrate.
3. But Haven’t?
But seriously haven’t we been eating diary and meat for, well, all of human history? We have been doing fine, right? I mean sure, people have died, but isn’t that what we all do? Are we really blaming lunchables and bacon on all of our medical issues? It seems just a tad bit hyperbolic, no? Of course, I’m not a doctor and don’t know anything. Well, that’s a lie. I know this: my great-grandmother (Rest in Power) lived to be 98. She ate whatever she wanted, lived through Jim Crow and even smoked most of her life. Maybe your genes suck but mine don’t. So I’ll take my chances and grab some cheese every now and then.
4. Debunking this…
Alternative facts are all over the Internet. I have no doubt that there are so many videos, Reddit threads and think pieces debunking this whole documentary as smug liberal hysterics/propaganda. I have no idea who to believe — but isn’t that true for everything? You just pick whatever argument fits your lifestyle. For me, the articles claiming this documentary is a crock of shit fits my chicken, cheese, meat eating lifestyle so…
